What is the formaldehyde in the furniture?
Formaldehyde is mainly derived from adhesives. The materials used in furniture mainly include artificial boards such as particleboard, MDF and plywood. It is well known that formaldehyde has a strong adhesiveness, can strengthen the hardness of the board, is insect-proof, anti-corrosive, and is inexpensive, so the urea-formaldehyde resin which is mainly composed of it is a raw material of various artificial boards.
It is said that wood itself contains formaldehyde, is it true?
This argument is based on certain evidence. It is reported that there are trace amounts of aldehydes (including formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, etc.) in the composition of wood, about 4mg/100g (detected by perforation extraction method), and 9mg/100g is E1 standard.
Does formaldehyde-free furniture exist?
In fact, there are no furniture products that are completely free of formaldehyde. The formaldehyde released by wooden furniture mainly comes from the adhesive used in the processing of the selected board. The “aldehyde-free” furniture products on the market are only made of non-formaldehyde or formaldehyde-free adhesives. However, this does not prove that formaldehyde is not present in the final product.
How to choose environmentally friendly furniture?
China's standard requirements for the implementation of the furniture industry are that the formaldehyde emission of furniture products must reach E1 level (≤1.5mg/L). Products within this standard range are not harmful to the human body under normal use. Therefore, consumers can choose products that reach E1 or higher when choosing furniture. In addition, no matter what grade of product is selected, frequent ventilation is the most effective way to avoid decoration contamination.
There are no furniture products that are completely free of formaldehyde in the market. Consumers should have more eyes and more similar products, and should not be deceived by various "zero aldehyde" gimmicks.
