Japan Paint Company Launches New Coatings

Nippon Paint researched and developed a new water-based paint for automotive applications. The viscosity of the paint can be controlled to prevent the paint film from flowing. During the application phase, the new coating was able to maintain a low tack, but immediately after application, it showed excellent adhesion to prevent the film from flowing down. The water-based paint is not easily affected by the application conditions, and the amount of the solvent is also less than the existing water-based paint. It is reported that it will soon be marketed as a new water-based automotive paint product.

The water-based new coating uses an emulsion containing a core layer/shell double-layer structure material, which expands and expands as a result of the joints of the additive and the shell component, thereby exhibiting an excellent adhesive structure after application. As a result, the paint remained low tackiness prior to storage and application and showed superior construction and handling properties. Once applied, it has excellent adhesion, which greatly improves the stability of the coating.

The application of this new paint-based water-based metal coating shows that the water-based coating can achieve superior coating performance and coating quality compared to traditional organic solvent-based resin coatings containing amide groups.
