Japan developed a heat-resistant bacteria circulating plastic

A few days ago, Nippon-Osaka Gas Corporation and its cooperative research unit Numazu National Technical Institute developed a plastic that can be recycled by bacteria using a methane-depleting technology. The plastic is said to be resistant to high temperatures of 150°C.

Currently, they are carrying out research work and trying to use their low-cost high-tech in the production of plastic tableware, food packaging materials, garbage bags and other items in 2-3 years. This plastic, called polyhydroxybutyrate, is produced in a methane-eating bacteria. They collect this kind of plastic in the body while eating methane. Sources of methane are abundant, and methane is contained in petroleum, coal gas, and biogas. It is understood that the production cost of plastics manufactured through this high technology is one-third that of conventional technologies.
