New preform system

The competition in the global PET preform market has intensified. For many years, the market has been exclusive to a few major equipment suppliers in North America and Europe, but now these suppliers are facing aggressive competition from low-cost suppliers in Asia.

Although top equipment manufacturers are facing the pressures brought about by the price war, having rich experience and advanced technology is still the advantage of competition, which can help equipment manufacturers improve efficiency and profits, and reverse unfavorable competition.

In the past 25 years, Husky has been the dominant supplier of PET equipment. Currently, Husky has 75% market share in the global market for preform molds and machinery, including the Asian market, which is mainly attributed to Hess. The company continues to invest heavily in research and development. The company has always focused on the development of new products and recently launched the new HyPET series preform production system.

Compared to the two models of G-PET with only 300 tons and 600 tons, the new product series offers six kinds of lock model numbers in the range of 90-500 tons. Each model can accommodate more chambers than the previous G-PET series, so more molds can be run in small machines. For example, a 96-cavity mold can now operate in a 400-ton system while a 144-cavity mold can operate in a 500-ton system. These molds previously required the use of a 600-ton system.

Compared with other preform systems on the market, Husky believes that the HyPET preform system has a number of advantages, including the new CoolPik post-injection cooling technology. The CoolPik system is a further evolution of Husky's CoolJet technology, using compressed air to cool the interior of the preform. CoolPik uses a blower to generate air, which saves the cost of compressed air. In addition, by integrating some of its product handling capabilities into the CoolPik system, Husky extended the system's blow time during the injection cycle, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the system. Urquhart said: "This is a factor in shortening the production cycle of HyPET. Internal air cooling is Husky's unique technology, and we are always committed to helping our customers get the most out of this technology."

HyPET also uses Husky's PC-based Polaris control technology, which has been used successfully for many years in the Hylectric series of general-purpose machines. This type of control technology has a short response time and helps to shorten the production cycle of HyPET and improve its repeatability.

Polaris not only controls the entire injection molding system, it also controls all ancillary equipment, allowing the operator to manage the entire operation from just one interface. The built-in networking capability in Polaris also enables Husky's service technicians to perform remote diagnostics, process monitoring and troubleshooting without having to stand in front of the machine.

Husky has received worldwide orders for more than 50 HyPET systems, some of which are in production. The company also recently won a new customer for HyPET, CristalPET, one of South America's leading preform manufacturers, whose preforms were exported to many locations in South America and Central America. Husky and CristalPET are working together to minimize the cost of the mold needed to produce their four preform designs.

HyPET is one of Husky's new range of preform systems. The system also includes the Index and single-step Index SB (stretch blown) product lines.
