The packaging of green products can only meet the general standards for national food labels. Most green foods in real life do not use green packaging, and some green food packaging does not meet the general standards. Some products even use toxic and harmful materials for packaging.

According to relevant experts, at present, China still has improper phenomena in the production, processing, and use of food packaging materials. For example, there are many phenomena in the packaging of paper in foods. In the food industry, including green foods (such as carton milk), a large number of whitened papers are used for packaging. In order to improve the whiteness of paper in its production process, most of them are treated with fluorescent whitening agents. Fluorescent whitening agent is a chemical substance with strong carcinogenic activity. Although it can play the role of bleaching paper fibers, it has a great toxic effect on humans and animals.

Second, the ink contamination of food packaging paper is also very serious. At present, many companies like to use colored wrapping paper to package foods. Therefore, using paper as a food package does not indicate that it is safe. There are many high-grade food packaging that uses tin foil. It is understood that lead content in 60% of tin foil exceeds the allowable health index, and lead is recognized as the “culprit” causing acute and chronic heavy metal poisoning.

In addition, green foods are packed in plastic bags, such as food and vegetables. According to experts, some plastics add plasticizers and antioxidants to improve performance. These additives are often toxic. Polyvinyl chloride is also a commonly used plastic, but additives are used in its production. Foods packaged with this material may cause chronic lead poisoning. In addition, polyvinyl chloride products will slowly release hydrogen chloride gas (HCI) at high temperatures (eg above 80c), which is toxic. Therefore, PVC should not be used as a food packaging material.

At present, China has used liquid preservative films for edible fruits and vegetables to preserve fruits and vegetables. The domestic green packaging technology is close to the international advanced level. Therefore, the real “green” and healthy green packaging is not far from our life.
