The Space Lubricants Research Group of the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences has made new progress in the preparation of functional ion gels. Ionic liquids have low volatility, non-flammability, high thermal stability and good electrical conductivity. The ionic gel formed by ionic liquid has high ionic conductivity and wide electrochemical window, and is a good solid electrolyte for lithium batteries, dye-sensitized solar cells, electromechanical drivers and capacitors. In the preparation of ionic gels, solid materials including polymers, inorganic nanomaterials or carbon nanomaterials are mainly added to ionic liquids, and there are few studies on the formation of ionic gels using small molecule gel-forming substances. The researchers designed an imidazole salt containing a benzotriazole functional group and added it to a common imidazole salt ionic liquid, which was assembled by supramolecular to form a highly ordered fiber structure, and the ionic liquid through weak intramolecular interactions (such as (Hydrogen bonding, π–π stacking, van der Waals force, and electrostatic interaction) are trapped in the fiber structure network to form an ionic gel. It can be liquefied under mechanical shear, so the ionic gel can be used as a good lubricant for friction pair materials in a wide temperature range, with lower friction and good anti-wear performance; benzotriazole functional groups confer The excellent anti-corrosion and anti-oxidation properties of the imidazolium salt make the ionic gel promising as a non-corrosive solid electrolyte for solar cells, supercapacitors, etc. The research was supported by the "Hundred Talents" project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
