China's national standard for children's furniture "General Technical Conditions for Children's Furniture" has been on the stage since August 1, 2012, and it has been more than a year since. It is understood that the "General Technical Conditions for Children's Furniture" (hereinafter referred to as the standard) is the first national standard for children's furniture industry in China. The chapter is a mandatory implementation standard, with strict emphasis on the structure and environmental protection of children's furniture.

After visiting several large home markets, I found that the worst implementation was the warning slogan. However, the interview found that more than 80% of the brands and products did not have warning signs in the obvious positions of the wardrobe, bunk beds and other furniture. The survey also found that more than 90% of children's furniture brands perform well in the rounded corner design, and the locking device of the drawer is relatively complete, but the children's furniture of many brands does not meet the standard in the “reserved vents” item. During a visit to a home market in the North Fourth Ring Road, it was found that there were several vents on the back panel of several children's wardrobes in the children's furniture brand Fleet. For questioning, the sales staff in the store said that only the addition of a cabinet door design such as magnets requires the venting on the closet. The door of the own branded wardrobe does not have a similar device, and the child is easier to push open, so there is no need Add holes.

The standard stipulates that in order to ensure the safety of cabinet-type enclosed furniture for children, it is stipulated that the product “has an airtight and confined space (such as the space formed by the door or cover and other parts), and the closed continuous space is greater than 0.03 cubic meters. For furniture with an internal dimension of more than 150 mm, the interior shall have a single opening area of ​​650 mm2; and two unobstructed ventilation openings at least 150 mm apart, or one with two 650 mm2 openings and spaces between them. Expanded into an integrated ventilation opening with an equivalent area."

Experts explained that if there are no holes in the furniture cabinet door, the cabinet must have a vent. It has been found that such vents are difficult to find on many brands of wardrobes. In the imported children's furniture PAIDI store in Germany, several wardrobes with no vents were found, and there was a rounded corner with no corners. In response to the inquiry, the salesperson said that the brand store was just introduced to Beijing, because the imported furniture does not have a vent, so it is communicating with the original factory. In addition, some furniture brands use the "special agreement regulations" in the standard to wipe the ball. For many children's furniture brands, ignoring the mandatory standards set by the state, and responding to consumers by excuses such as “showing products as old models”, “no relevant standards for international children's furniture” or using individual regulations in national standards to fight the ball. Zhu Changling, chairman of the China Furniture Association, said that it is purely an excuse for some furniture brands to emphasize that their own products are inventories or old ones. The standard should be implemented for one year, and the inventory should be clear.

Compared with similar standards in the world, China has turned children's furniture standards into compulsory standards. It is unprecedented in the history of furniture and is a strict enforcement regulation. Regarding the situation in which some enterprises are not in place, Zhu Changling said that it is related to the understanding of enterprises and the enforcement of regulatory authorities.

Zhu Changling believes that how to truly ensure strict implementation of standards will take a relatively long period of time, and enterprises should continue to pay attention. Nowadays, there are still some problems in the market. For example, the standard stipulates “except for special agreement”. For example, the furniture customized by the manufacturer according to the customer's requirements, the risk is borne by the customer, and is not included in the scope of this standard. Although the implementation of standards requires supervision by the regulatory authorities, in the final analysis, enterprises need to assume responsibility and awareness of consumers' safety. Enterprises should be responsible for the safety and interests of consumers. This should be a consensus of the whole society.

According to industry insiders, the “standard” is a summary of repeated science and technology, which can be adjusted according to the actual situation after a period of implementation. The implementation of standards promotes the market development of children's furniture, rather than limiting it.
